Veterans and their families are invited to attend the third annual veterans appreciation barbeque this Thursday, September 27th. The event will take place from 5 PM to 8 PM at AF Veteran Town Park, off of Heatherdell Road (multipurpose center).

Close to 300 veterans and their families have already sent in their RSVPs – advising us that they plan to attend this event. United States Congresswoman Nita Lowey will attend –and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs will send their mobile VA clinic for VAs to get updated information about their benefits or to register for benefits if they are not enrolled. West Point is sending an honor guard to the barbeque. The barbeque is being sponsored by Shoprite. They are donating most of the food for the event.

During the past few years Alan Hochberg & Steve Wittenberg have volunteered their time producing veterans living history interviews of veterans of World War II and the Korean conflict. They have completed about 90 interviews with veterans so far. We will be presenting the tapes to the federal government –each of the half hour interviews will be archived at the United States Library of Congress. The 90 interviews (additional interviews are taped weekly) will also be archived at the Greenburgh library. The interviews are also broadcast non stop during the Memorial Day and Veterans Day weekends.
