STORM MEMO 4-HOW WE PREPARED FOR THE STORM TODAY--100 E HARTSDALE PARKING..
Release Date: October 28, 2012

HOW TOWN PREPARED FOR THE STORM ON SATURDAY...
Rich Fon, deputy commissioner of public works advises that...
On Saturday the public works department did the following to prepare for the storm:
-All leaf bags town wide were picked up
-Most of the residential brush piles we picked up
-Saw Mill River obstructions were cleared
-Over 75 complaints were examined
-The Fairview fire department distributed sand bags
-Edgemont, most of Cotswold, and some of E. Hartsdale Ave were swept
-Area hot spots for drains and basins were all cleared
-Basin top clearing took place
-We assisted Parks with vehicle moving
-All saws and equipment was prepped and ready to go
-We cleaned and jetted lines for the Village of Elmsford
-This week we cleaned troublesome brook
-This week we continued to keep two sweepers per day on the road

Monday we will be back on Kensico, N. Elmsford, and Hartsdale Ave

It is important to note that the leaf bag policy is clearly working. Roads are cleaner, and we were able to conduct a town wide pick up. This will be helpful for instance if it were going to snow and we needed to clean up in a very short period of time.

INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS OF 100 E HARTSDALE AVE...

Some residents of 100 E Hartsdale Ave contacted me expressing concern about flooding. During past storms their garage flooded-causing damage to cars. The police chief advised me that residents could park their cars at the Richard Presser park (previously called Webb) parking lot. I asked Stephanie Kavorias of the Hartsdale Parking District (which is independent of the town government) if residents of 100 E Hartsdale Ave can park in the parking garage. This was her response...

If the storm comes in as predicted the metered parking on the street will of course be suspended. As to the garages, we have to wait until we know whether MTA suspends service. If they don't we have to keep the garages open to our permit holders as we are sold to 98% capacity and we have two low lying lots that flooded last year therefore we have to move those permit holders to site A. If MTA suspends service on Monday then we can and will open the garage to avenue residents. MTA should be announcing their plan tomorrow. I'll keep you up to date. Please understand that we want to help avenue residents but we can't displace our permit holders. The storm last year was over a weekend and MTA suspended service on Monday. If service is not suspended we are in a bind because our garages will be full due mostly to our having to close two commuter lots prone to flooding due to their proximity to the Bronx River.
