900 GREENBURGH FAMILIES HAD POWER RESTORED TODAY...SOME SCHOOLS BACK UP
Release Date: November 04, 2012

We made some progress re: restoration of power today. There are now 7,100 people out of power --- about 900 people got their power back on. Some schools are back up: Woodlands, Maria Regina, Solomon Schecter, the Hartsdale Fire Department, Anthony Veteran Park, Ardsley schools have power. Con Ed is working on restoring power to the Edgemont schools. If power is not restored to the schools today, hopefully it will be tomorrow. Saw a number of Con Ed trucks on Greenburgh streets. If Con Ed had given the town the attention during the past week that they gave us today I would not have complained as much.

I spent some time at the Greenburgh Library today and was able to match up another woman with a house angel. I appreciate the generosity of the house angel volunteers. Yesterday, a woman who read the e mail alerts reached out to the Atria in Ardsley and move her parent to the assisted living facility until power is restored. This is a great service being offered to the frail elderly and those who have medical conditions. If you want to be on the list of house angels or want to stay with a house angel until power is restored, please advise. My e mail is pfeiner@greenburghny.com. The Associated Press ran a story about the Greenburgh house angels program that ran nation wide. Some people from all over the country offered to let the “powerless stay with them.” Sorry, no one from Hawaii contacted me!

I predict significant progress re: restoration of power to take place tomorrow. Con Ed is finally assigning more crews to the town.

Thank you…Greenburgh Parks department!

Many people deserve lots of praise for their hard work during the storm. The public works department has done a great job. The Greenburgh Library is being praised by many for providing them with relief and comfort during the storm. The Theodore Young Community Center has been used as an overnight shelter. The police are working very hard. Yesterday I praised the fire department. Forgot to mention the Park department.. In particular our parks crew have been working throughout the town with the Department of Public Works every step of the way. We have used all our parks resources to assist DPW to either take assignments or mix our crews in with theirs.

When AFV Park was without power we were able to use the civil defense generator truck to give us enough power so we could prepare meals for our nutrition sites and home bound senior citizens. We were down for only one day.

Joe Lucasey has been troubleshooting getting power up and running during this whole crisis and made sure that my email posts have been sent out (the glist went down the night before the storm). Thanks to Gerry Byrne and his team.
