AS TEMPERATURES DIP INTO 30s TOWN WILL CHECK ON SENIORS...HOUSE ANGELS ; police
Release Date: November 04, 2012

Temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s tonight and during the week. This is HORRIBLE NEWS for the approximately 7,000 Greenburgh families still without power. Tonight, 10 residents decided to sleep at our shelter at the Theodore Young Community Center. Hat's off to the CERT volunteers who are working so hard providing residents with a warm place to sleep. The center is located off of 119 (Manhattan Ave--across from Crossroads Shoppoing Center). SHOWERS ARE AVAILABLE. Some readers of this e mail may prefer sleeping in their cold house - but if the cold conditions are unbearable you can go to the center anytime during the evening. The Theodore Young Community Center is open 24 hours during the storm---and their is security.

James Robinson, deputy commissioner of the TDYCC, spoke to me this evening about an initiative they will take tomorrow. We expect to call seniors enrolled in senior programs -checking up on them. We worry about how some of the frail elderly are dealing with living in cold conditions for a prolonged period of time. Highlights the need for Con Ed to assign more crews to our county and town. If you want to volunteer and help reach out to seniors, please call James at 989 3643 or e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com.

The House Angels program has angels but not enough residents who are taking us up on the offer of a comfortable bed in a warm home. If you want me to connect you to a house angel - please contact me tomorrow so I can try to find a home for you and your family. Tonight - two families who I connected with each other are benefitting from the House Angels program.

POLICE CHIEF'S COMMENTS ABOUT AREAS BLACKED OUT.. we have assigned officers to areas of the town that are blacked out. If you observe someone suspicious contact the police department immediately. If someone is a victim of a crime have them report it immediately.
PAUL FEINER

PS: Library open till 9 PM tomorrow night.
