Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner met with Peter Cannito, President of Metro North today (January 28th) to discuss the progress of the Hartsdale train station overpass construction project and the need to place elevators at the train station to make the station accessible for the disabled. Feiner reported that the meeting was very productive. Since we forwarded commuter complaints to Metro North late last year about the lack of progress at the Hartsdale train station – Metro North has expedited the construction efforts. The contractor has been directed to work on Saturdays, the size of the crew working on the project has been increased and there are longer shifts. As a result, work is expected to be completed earlier than anticipated.
The overpass will be opened during the week of May 9-13 (beneficial use) and will be substantially completed during the week of July 18-22.
Feiner said that we discussed the need for elevators to be installed at the Hartsdale train station to make the train station accessible for the disabled. I learned that Larchmont officials also requested elevators a few years back. Congresswoman Nita Lowey was helpful in securing federal funding to place elevators at that station. Feiner will reach out to Senators Clinton, Schumer and Congresswoman Nita Lowey to secure $250,000 for the design of the elevators as a future Metro North capital project. Final design and construction costs would be determined based upon several factors, including but not limited to, final engineering plans and specifications, design review and approval by the State Historical Preservation Office elevator capacity, size, speed of elevator, machinery locations, staging
