Main roads good, side roads could be slippery...normal sanitation schedule for rest of week
Release Date: February 03, 2015

Just called the Greenburgh police. They indicated that the main roads are all good. Some of the secondary roads could be a little slippery.   And---a reminder. We are going to be following the normal sanitation schedule for the rest of the week. If you reside in the north end of the town garbage will be picked up today and Friday. If you reside in the south end of town and normally had garbage picked up on Monday - the garbage will be picked up Thursday. Tomorrow will be a commingled recycling day.

LEARNING FROM MISTAKES---Although I sent out frequent updates about the snow storm to subscribers of the e list there were delays in posting the e mail alerts onto the website.  Some residents complained to me that when they checked the website they did not find the info about the sanitation schedule changes  We are taking measures so emergency information will be posted on the website in a timely manner.  Not everyone subscribes to our e list.

SPOKE TO HIGHWAY GARAGE -  I spoke with some of the employees at the highway department involved in snow removal. There were two major problems yesterday. During the snow storm many cars were parked on the road --slowing down the snow removal operation.  And, people throw snow on the road after we clean it up.  I will be speaking with the Public Works Commissioner today ---want to learn from the experience we had during recent snow storms.  Our employees work hard --it's a difficult job working evenings and then during the day clearing snow and ice.

DURING THE NEXT SNOW STORM I WILL BE ON A TRUCK-- I plan to spend a few hours on one of the trucks that will be plowing streets. I'll highlight the hard work involved in snow removal, summarize the drivers experiences, will take photos of road obstructions and give readers of the e list a better appreciation of what happens behind the scenes during snow storms.
