Release Date: May 16, 2015

ARDSLEY, EDGEMONT, IRVINGTON AND ARDSLEY SCHOOLS RANKED THE BEST...

GREENBURGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 1st SCHOOL TO AFFILIATE WITH ACE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER MENTOR PROGRAM

SCHOOL BUDGET VOTE TUESDAY

Congratulations to... Hastings, Edgemont, Irvington and Ardsley high schools. They have have been ranked among the best in New York State by U.S. News & World Report in rankings released earlier this week. Voters will be voting for School Board members and will also vote on school budgets this coming Tuesday.

Woodlands  High School started a very exciting program earlier this year that should help students eventually land great jobs as architects, engineers or construction managers.

WOODLANDS 1st school in Westchester County to affiliate with  ACE Mentor Program: Architecture, Construction and Engineering

Woodlands is the first high school in Westchester County to affiliate with the acclaimed ACE Mentor Program. ACE is a partnership between schools and industry, including architects, interior designers, landscape architects, mechanical, structural, electrical, environmental and civil engineers, constriction managers, colleges, universities and other corporate professionals. As a means to develop and attract talented students to their industry, professional volunteers introduce students to their fields through the design of actual products that the teams design and bring to life in prototypes.

ACE teams meet after school for 20 two-hour sessions where the work evolved from the idea stage to presentation level. Seventeen Greenburgh Central School District students in this program are headed to New York University to face five judges who will adjudicate the merit of their projects on Monday, May 18, 2015 from 4 to 8 pm. The students and their volunteer mentors have worked diligently to design a project that  could serve useful to the Woodlands campus.

Greenburgh parent Angela Maxwell and Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner proposed the partnership to Greenburgh Superintendent Tahira Dupree Chase as a great STEM opportunity for our high school students. Mrs. Maxwell’s son Chas traveled to New York City to participate in ACE, winning the attention of Program Director Ed Jerman. “Beyond a doubt, our students meet and exceed challenging expectations when we work together to build opportunities,” said Superintendent Chase. This initiative is, indeed, a community, municipality and school district collaborative initiative.
