Anubhav Nanavaty graduated from Edgemont High School last year. He was accepted to the University of Chicago and decided to take a gap year –visiting the home of his ancestors in India for six months. Farm work before the sun was up, lectures on Indian culture in the afternoon, and meditation yoga in the evening - a big change from my Edgemont routine!   He  decided to spend six months in Dayalbagh, an "ashram," or center for mediation, in a rural setting just outside Agra (the city where you can see the Taj Mahal), India. It was also an opportunity to explore his roots as over 5 generations of his family have lived in that community. At last night’s town Board meeting Anubhav summarized his experiences. You can watch the presentation he made before the Greenburgh Town Board by viewing the following link (sometimes these links don’t work so cut and paste).  Also—please find his power point presentation attached.

We’re fortunate to have outstanding young people like Anubhav live in our community. He has a great future ahead of him.

We are gearing up for our 6th Road to Success backpack campaign at the Lois Bronz Children’s Center.

Starting a new school year is always a scary, yet exhilarating experience. Imagine doing it without the proper tools, unprepared and unable to participate in that first day excitement. We are trying to eliminate this situation and help our students on the Road to Success.

The Lois Bronz Children’s Center provides services for two year olds to sixth graders.  Several programs reside in our building; Special Needs classes, Head Start preschool, Universal Pre-Kindergarten and a School Age Enrichment program. We strive to serve the diverse needs of the various populations found in our community.

Our reason for writing is we are attempting to send our students to Kindergarten with new backpacks and school supplies. We have a large population of students that receive assistance and in this economic climate they have limited resources. New school supplies would help them ride the road to educational success by providing them with the necessary tools, build their self esteem and teach them to have respect for their belongings.

We are attempting to fill at least 75 backpacks, by mid August, for our outgoing Kindergarteners.   Donations would be greatly appreciated and put to good use by our amazing, gifted, and talented students.

The children and parents were extremely grateful for the supplies that they themselves are struggling to obtain. If you are a first time donor thank you ahead of time for your consideration and/or assistance with our campaign.  If you are a returning patron, thank you again for all of your generosity.

If you would prefer to send a monetary donation for us to purchase the items for the backpacks collection, please send a check made out to LBCC and in the memo section identify backpack drive. If you are dropping off, please ask for Julie. Thank you again for all of your support

Please feel free to contact us at BBJABAStreet@aol.com or 914-761-6134, if you have any questions. The children and parents truly appreciate any endeavor you make. Please find a list of needed items on the attached page.

We are requesting, but not limited to:

Composition Books

Glue Sticks

Pencil cases

Thank you again for any assistance you can provide in helping us reach our target. Items can be dropped off at the center between 8am and 5:30pm daily. There will be a box in the front office at 30 Manhattan Ave, White Plains, New York 10607.  If you are dropping off, please ask for Julie. We are also available to pick up, if needed. They will provide a tax-exempt form upon request.
