WVOX RADIO SHOW AT 10 AM FOOD SCRAP RECYCLING...GREENBURGH POLICE RATED TOPS
Release Date: January 26, 2018

Have you taken advantage of Greenburgh's newest initiative: our food scrap recycling initiative? You can drop off food scraps at our recycling location-- AF Veteran Park.  I have invited  Margaret Goldberg, Rachel Carpitella and Travis Brady of the Greenburgh Nature Center to be my guests on my weekly WVOX radio program today - at 10 AM to 11 AM. WVOX can be heard on 1460 AM or on the web: www.wvox.com.  If you have any questions please call in during the program at 636-0110.   We want the students to train their parents and to encourage participation.

The Town Board was informed on January 18, 2018, that the Greenburgh Police Department is, once again, being recommended for New York State Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation by a three member evaluation team which evaluated over a multi-day site visit 110 standards: 52 related to agency administration, 46 to operations and 12 to training.  The program is overseen by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.  First accredited in 2003 for ten years, and then re-accredited for five years in 2013, the Greenburgh Police Department voluntarily sought and enthusiastically worked toward 2018 re-accreditation.  According to the lead evaluator conducting his 37th comprehensive evaluation, the high level of performance of the Greenburgh Police Department in meeting the standards was, in his opinion, unprecedented.  He stated he has been performing assessments since 2004 and the Greenburgh Police Department performed better than any agency he had every evaluated.  Therefore, he will be recommending the Greenburgh Police Department as a model statewide.  The accolades for the professionalism and community focus of our Greenburgh Police Department could not have been more strongly worded.  For perspective, less than one-third of law enforcement agencies eligible to seek accreditation in NYS are accredited.

AN EXAMPLE OF WHY THE GREENBURGH POLICE IS TOPS

On Friday January 19th, 2018 Greenburgh Police Department paramedics and officers responded to Michaels, a retail store located at 319 N. Central Avenue in Hartsdale, for a report of a woman in cardiac arrest. Hartsdale F.D personnel also responded to assist. Upon their arrival the GPD paramedics and officers located the woman and assessed that she was not breathing. A drug overdose was suspected as the cause. Medical attention, including the administering of Narcan, was provided and the woman began breathing again. Greenburgh P.D. personnel were able to gather enough information from her to discover that her husband was in a vehicle somewhere in the parking lot. He was quickly located and was found not breathing, likely from a heroin overdose. Medical attention, including the administering of Narcan, was provided and the male began breathing on his own again. Through their swift response, thinking, and actions Greenburgh Police personnel were able to provide life saving medical attention to not just one, but two patients.
