2018 capital budget proposed...includes funding for traffic light on Ardsley Rd/Sprain
Release Date: April 19, 2018

THIS YEARS PROPOSED CAPITAL BUDGET INCLUDES FUNDING FOR TRAFFIC LIGHT ON ARDSLEY ROAD/SPRAIN, SIGNIFICANT WATER INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDS,  ROAD REPAVING, SIDEWALKS AND OTHER INITIATIVES

The 2018 capital budget was released on Tuesday and is posted on the town website in its entirety –with explanations. The link is below:

The budget recommends funding of $17,958,636 to address capital projects throughout the town. Water infrastructure improvements (paid for by  water district ratepayers) , costs about $9,000,000.

A PUBLIC HEARING will be held on Wednesday, April 25th at 8 PM at Town Hall (after our one hour information session on coyotes).  Your feedback is welcome!

The budget includes funding for more sidewalks, pedestrian safety initiatives, trucks, advance life support equipment and vehicles. We’re replacing boilers and heaters and replacing lockers at the indoor pool that was installed in the early 1980s.

We’re enhancing our parks, addressing pool problems at our interactive pool at AF Veteran park and adding playground and fitness equipment for people with disabilities. New poles and LED lights are being funded at Frank Jazzo Field, Rumbrook Park. And- a basketball court at Washington Park Basketball Court is being resurfaced.

The proposed budget includes $2,000,000 for road repaving and $500,000 for curb repairs.  A major new initiative: a traffic light at Ardsley Road at Sprain Road intersection. The  estimated cost: $350,000.  The Manor House at the Nature Center will get a $600,000 repair.

We’re spending millions on our water department. $2,750,000 is being recommended for the existing water storage tanks which vary from 15 to 87 years old. They are in need of repair, renovation and painting.  The water storage tank work is necessary to stay in compliance with federal, state and health department regulations.

$3,000,000 is recommended for water main cleaning and lining. This is needed to control rusting and turerculation (buildup) within various water mains throughout the town. This will restore hydraulic and fire flow capacity and less discoloration of water to our customers.  The water and sewer district in town owns and operates a sanitary sewer system with about 200 miles of sewer lines throughout the town.

I have also recommended to the Town Board that we appropriate $3,000,000 for the installation of a water transmission main from the Rumbrook Pump station to the Knollwood pump station. The interconnection is needed from the Rumbrook pump station to the Knollwood Pump station to provide the town with a second water source in the event that the NYC Delaware aqueduct system is down or the Knollwood Pump station is unavailable. Currently, the town has no backup for water if the Knollwood station is unavailable.

The town has a water district advisory  board made up of citizens who reside around town. The advisory board has been working with the water department on water infrastructure initiatives.

The above are just some highlights. I hope you will take a look at the link above and contact me with any questions or concerns.  Maintaining our infrastructure is of great importance.

PAUL FEINER
