During the past week I had the opportunity to attend two Eagle Scout ceremonies--one in Hastings and the Court of Honor ceremony for  four Edgemont Eagle Scouts.  Becoming an Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the scouting program. Only 4% of scouts are granted this rank after a lengthy review process. Scouts have to earn at least 21 merit badges and must demonstrate scout spirit--law, service and leadership. 

Cole Armacost who resides in  Hastings became an Eagle Scout last week. Not only did he obtain many merit badges but he also was involved in helping the community -renovating the  kitchen of the American Legion and already the veterans say that it has made big difference in their lives.

On Sunday I attended the Eagle Scout ceremonies for four outstanding Edgemont scouts: Timothy Babchak's project-creating an outdoor Native American Classroom at the Greenburgh Nature Center- will be appreciated by students for many years and was a creative initiative.

  Matthew Jachemcyzyk designing and building a portable coat rack with a bottom storage bin for the Greenburgh Nature is a practical project that addresses a long standing concern that many people had when visiting the center.

  Henry Shifren's design and building of two woode rolling carts with shelves for use at his synagogue and the United Interfaith Food Bank will help collect and sort food donations for those in need.

  And, Thomas Warren's Eagle Scout project-building a solitary bee hotel at the nature center will help our valuable pollinators.

BEFORE ONE ACHIEVES EAGLE SCOUT RANK THE SCOUTS STARTED WITH CUB SCOUTS.

I recently met some future stars of the scouting movement - cub scouts from Hartsdale Pack 67. I gave them a tour of Greenburgh Town Hall, discussed town initiatives with them, answered questions. They produced the following you tube video- what they like about cub scouts.

Today's scouts will be tomorrow's leaders.  Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk the moon was an Eagle Scout. So was Sam Walton, Wal Mart Founder, Michael Bloomberg, former Mayor of NYC,  Gerald Ford, 38th President of the United States, Steven Spielberg, Academy Award film director, and Steven Breyer, Associated Justice of the Supreme Court.
