EDGEMONT TRENCH COLLAPSE
Release Date: January 12, 2006

Rescuers from the Greenburgh Technical rescue unit (Greenburgh police, Fairview, Hartsdale, Greenvillefire departments)  freed a worker from a collapsed trench at 340 Ardsley Roadtoday.  A day laborer was digging the trench for a sewer line behind 340 Ardsley Roadwhen the walls caved in. The day laborer was trapped up to his neck. The worker suffered leg injuries.

The hole was about 6 feet deep. Unfortunately, the worker started digging BEFORE the contractor applied for a building permit. The building department had no idea that work was being done. As a result, a summons is being issued. Lesson: Please make sure that you advise all contractors that they MUST COMPLY WITH TOWN LAWS—and apply for appropriate permits with the building department. Contractors and homeowners receive summons from the town when work is taking place without appropriate permits.
