WHAT IS C.E.R.T.?

*************************************************************

Following a Major Disaster or Local Emergency, First Responders who provide Security and Protection, Fire Control, and Medical Services, may not be immediately available to help.

When there are Uniforms on the scene, critical support functions are often needed to free them up to do their jobs.

This is where your Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) plays its most important role.

CERT members are educated about Disaster Preparedness and trained in basic Disaster Response Skills in a FREE course given by Professionals.

CERT members can:

·        assist others in their Community before Professional First Responders arrive

·        assist First Responders on the scene

·        perform needed paperwork at Shelters and at Emergency sites

·        help staff Shelters

·        provide psychological comfort to victims

·        provide record-keeping and phone support

·        NOT ALL CERT JOBS REQUIRE PHYSICAL EXERTION

************************************************************************************************************************

Greenburgh is now establishing both Town and Local Teams.

************************************************************************************************************************

Each Community should have its own “Neighborhood” Teams

Training supervised by our Police / First Responders
