Illuminated road signs can help those with poor vision... live streaming of Board meetings suggested
Release Date: January 02, 2007

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner is urging the State & County Departments of Transportation and local governments, including Greenburgh, to consider placing illuminated road signs on streets. Feiner said that he recently visited his in laws in Florida. Many road signs in the Lake Wortharea of Floridaare illuminated. These road signs are easier to see and are helpful to the elderly or to those who have poor vision. They could help reduce driver hesitation at intersections. These signs are helpful to those unfamiliar with roads.

Feiner is also renewing his call for Greenburgh Town Board meetings to be streamed live on the internet – a request he has made for a few years. Currently, the Greenburgh Town Board streams meetings on our web site: www.greenburghny.com. However, these meetings are not streamed  live.  Over 14 years ago the Greenburgh Town Board implemented an open government initiative (Dial Democracy) – encouraging residents to call in during Town Board meetings. Only residents who have cable TV can watch meetings live and call in with questions/comments   those who don’t subscribe to cable or who have satellite TV are at a disadvantage. If Board meetings would be streamed live on the internet – Greenburgh residents would be able to watch the meetings live from anywhere. Residents who are out of town during Town Board meetings could watch meetings on the internet live –they could also call in during public hearings and express their views during the public comment portions of the meeting.

Governor Eliot Spitzer, on Day 1, signed an executive order requiring “all state agencies and public authorities to develop plans by July 1 to stream all meetings subject to the open meetings law on the internet.”
