HOME OF GORDON PARKS, LEGENDARY PHOTOGRAPHER, SLATED FOR DESIGNATION AS A LOCAL HISTORIC LANDMARK
Release Date: February 09, 2007

The Greenburgh Town Boardwill be taking steps next Wednesday night (at our Feb 14th meeting)  to designate 15 Adams Placeas a local Historic Landmark. This is the house that was lived in by legendary African American photographer, filmmaker, writer and composer Gordon Parks. Mr. Parks wrote about this house in his memoir  A HUNGRY HEART. In the memoir, published in 2005, Mr. Parks describes the bungalow in the suburbs – its large room with a skylight – and hugh windows added to the original home purchased by Mr. Parks. The house is originally of a Tudor cottage style (1929). It was renovated by Mr. Parks in the 1950s to include extra bedrooms and an extended family room with a fireplace overlooking the patio and in ground swimming pool.

Mr. Parks was a historic figure in American history. He spent some of his most formative and creative years in the Adams Placehouse which creatively has left its mark on American history and inspired generations of filmmakers and photographers. The Town Boardwill vote on Wednesday to refer the designation to the Planning Board for its recommendations and advice.  Preserving and protecting this historic property is of great importance.
