Zoning Code Revision Committee Members Wanted
Release Date: March 25, 2007

On Wednesday, March 28, 2007, the Town Board will vote on a resolution (CD-2) creating a Zoning Code Revision Committee.  The Town Board needs two members of the Greenburgh community knowledgeable in updating Zoning Ordinances to volunteer to serve on the committee.  Residents knowledgeable of the town’s Zoning Ordinance and the complex interrelationship of its provisions are urged to email the Town Board at TownBoard@GreenburghNY.com or call 993-1544 ext. 5, to express a desire to be considered for appointment as a citizen liaison on this committee.  Due to the technical work this committee will conduct, residents with previous experience writing and revising zoning code will be given preference.  Councilman Francis Sheehan, who served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for ten years prior to being elected to the Town Board, will chair the committee.

Joining the two community liaisons on the committee will be Building Inspector John Lucido, Commissioner of Community Development and Planning Mark Stellato, Deputy Town Attorney Edward Lieberman, Planning Board Member Walter Simon, Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals Liaison Councilman Francis Sheehan (chair), Zoning Board of Appeals Chair Steven Belasco and Zoning Board of Appeals Member Lawrence Doyle.  Each appointee may designate an alternate to serve in his/her absence.

The last comprehensive revision of the town’s zoning plan, as set forth in Chapter 285 (the “Zoning Ordinance”) of the Town Code, was undertaken in 1980.  The Town Board recognizes the need to reorganize, clarify and update the format, standards, procedures and administrative aspects of the Zoning Ordinance in order to make it easier to use, incorporate currently utilized zoning procedures and reflect new legislation and case law.  The Town Board further recognizes the need to address and update the laws governing activities in areas containing steep slopes and wetlands, and the bulk size and dimensional requirements for residence districts that were implemented following the adoption of the 2003 Comprehensive Plan.  The Town Board has retained the firm of Buckhurst Fish & Jacquemart (BFJ) which has extensive experience in preparing planning and zoning reviews, zoning code revisions, and comprehensive plans for a number of municipalities throughout New York State.

The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for April 10, at 1:00 PM.  Subsequent meetings will be scheduled based on committee member availability.  If interested, please reply.
