This is an update from the building inspector regarding commercial buildings to apartment buildings on E Hartsdale Ave.
PAUL FEINER
We have inspected the affected buildings on E. Hartsdale Avenueand have placed CEASE OCCUPANCY notices on all buildings from the Chase Bank (formerly Bank of NY) to the apartment house at 170. The basements were flooded above the furnaces and electric panels. These building cannot be occupied until the flooded areas are dried out, the electric panels tested and replaced, if needed, and con Ed restores the gas. Each building owner must have a licensed electrician correct any components of the electric supply system that are damaged and dangerous. The systems must then be inspected by the electrical inspector to certify the safety. Last night (early morning) Con Ed cut the gas and power to these buildings at the manholes in the street for safety reasons. Being that there is no power and no heat, occupancy can not be permitted until all safety factors are ameliorated.
