www.thesidewalkproject.blogspot.com---pedestrian safety for 3 developmentally disabled residents
Release Date: May 04, 2007

3 Scarsdale High School students (Jana Trenk, Carolyn Schepis, Erin Bracken)  have created a blog: www.thesidewalkproject.blogspot.com summarizing their day to day experiences trying to get a sidewalk (or pedestrian safety enhancements) on Chatterton Parkway. These three students are spending a month and a half working as interns -- their senior class project.
Earlier this year 3 residents of a group home on Chatterton Parkway (Jason Kingsley, Raymond Frost, Yaniv Gorodischer) petitioned the Greenburgh Town Board for a sidewalk. Jason, Raymond and Yaniv have down syndrome. Their story was featured on page one of the NY TIMES (region) on March 11th.
There is no question that Chatterton Parkway is a dangerous road for pedestrians. 28 out of 30 neighbors who reside on Chatterton signed the petition. Yet, there are obstacles. The blog that Trenk, Schepis and Bracken  have created will give readers some insight as to various issues that have been raised regarding the sidewalk. The blog will also provide readers with additional info as to what steps should be taken at the town level and at the state level to promote pedestrian safety.
Yesterday Vic Leviatan, a resident of Greenburgh & founder of the WISE program for high school students at Woodlands,  took Trenk, Schepis & Bracken on walking tour of Old Tarrytown Road (near the Greenburgh Town Hall). We stopped at two markers that were placed along the road. There were two pedestrian fatalities on the street and no sidewalk.
