Ashford Avenue Construction Update
Release Date: July 07, 2003

A memo from the Ardsley Village Manager about Ashford Ave.......

I am pleased to advise you that the Ashford Avenue project is back on track.  Two weeks ago, representatives of the New York State Department of Transportation, the bonding company, and the new road contractor, Columbus Construction Corporation signed off on their respective agreements.  This past Monday, members of each group met with Village officials in Village Hall to iron out details, and met again on Wednesday morning to walk Ashford Avenue from Route 9A to Sprain Road to familiarize the contractor with our extensive punch list of concerns most strikingly the utility pole in the middle of the road at American Legion Drive and the poor surface conditions at the base of Larchmont, Fairmont, and Euclid.  Columbus Construction is expected to commence mobilizing on Monday, July 7.  As soon as timetables are available regarding such matters as road resurfacing, road markings, sign installations, traffic light electrifications, completion of the Taft Lane retaining wall and the McCormack Drive sidewalk, they will be reported in subsequent construction updates.  Should you have specific concerns, the preferred method to contact me is at manager@ardsleyvillage.com. Of course, the downside of all this newly resumed activity will be traffic snarls. Work will not commence daily until 8:00 am, and will be delayed until 8:45 am near the Middle School to accommodate day camp arrivals.  However, due to the varying schedules no such accommodation can be made for day camp departures, so parents please build in the extra time for pickups.

Unrelated to the Ashford Avenue project, we learned on Friday that the construction crews at the Senior Citizen Housing Project will be installing water and sewer mains on Route 9A for the next three weeks.  The trench digging and pipe laying will cause alternate one lane closures from the entrance of the Ardsley Mall to County Texaco.  Although flag crews will be on hand, getting around the Village could be extremely frustrating for the next several weeks. Thus on behalf of the construction crews and our police officers, please indulge us with your continued patience.  It is most appreciated!

Respectfully,

George F. Calvi
