NEW WEBSITE: www.greenburghnaturecenter.org NEW CONCEPT: STORYWALK: NATURE AND READING
Release Date: July 27, 2009

The Greenburgh Nature Center inaugurated their fantastic new website: www.greenburghnaturecenter.org--featuring great info about the nature center. The website was launched thanks to the generous donation of Harold & Bette Burson.
I took my 10 year old daughter to storywalk at the nature center on Sunday--we read a childrens book as we walked the nature trail. Different pages placed on stakes along the trail. Reading & exercise! Please visit the nature center and take your child (grandchild, friends child) to story walk. It's my hope that the Storywalk concept can be expanded to other trails in our parks system. I will be reaching out to the members of the parks advisory board.  I also think that there should be a different childrens book featured each month at different trails.
Story walk was first started in Vermont. IT combines combines fitness, literacy and fun. Pages of a childrens book are placed on a stake and the childrens book is spaced equidistantly along the length of a bike path or wooded trail. Each complete story walk consists of no fewer than 30 stakes. The first story walk was installed at Montpeliers Hubbard park in Vermont.  I first proposed the concept to the nature center in April, after reading a magazine article about this. I appreciate the quick turnaround from the nature center.
