CHIEF DECARLO RECOMMENDS THAT CHILDREN NOT GO OUT TONIGHT
Release Date: October 31, 2011

Tonight is Halloween. If your child wants to go out please be careful. According to Chief Joseph DeCarlo the most prudent action is not to go out (unless it is to an apartment complex). Councilman Francis Sheehan sent me an e mail last night pointing out that there are unsafe areas due to broken branches (that will fall at some point). Parents  need to help by being vigilant with their children if they go trick or treating. We will tape off obvious hazards but parents should NOT think that an area is safe under these post weather conditions just because IT IS NOT TAPED OFF. Nature hasn’t finished its post storm impacts. More branches will likely fall. Conditions are still dangerous.
If you have a teenager (who does not want to go trick or treating with their parents) think twice before letting them out –roaming the streets. Are they aware of the dangerous wires?  Parents should be out with their kids tonight if they insist on going out—regardless of their age.
It may not be cool to be with a parent on Halloween.  But, it’s less cool if a child gets injured because of the debris or is hit by a falling branch or touches a wire.
