88 North Road GROUP HOME EXTENSION..update: repairs:pool, gym floor, HVAC system at TDYCC
Release Date: January 30, 2013

The Greenburgh Town Board met last night with representatives of Richmond Community Services and the community to discuss a proposed group home for six developmentally disabled individuals, some wheelchair confined, others with limited mobility.  The home is proposed to be located at 88 North Road. According to NYS law the Town Board has a specific number of days to determine if the Board wants to object. After listening to community concerns the agency has agreed to a one week extension of the Padavan notification timetable till February 8th, 2013.  They will be meeting with their architects to discuss the size of the proposed home and landscaping issues. Some of the Board members expressed concern about saturation of group homes/non profits in the Fairview section of town.
I have sent out a questionnaire to residents who live near existing group homes - asking them to share their experiences. The town has a number of group homes located in different neighborhoods. Received some responses from neighbors of group homes who reside on Dobbs Ferry Road, WP, Surrey Way, WP, Old Army Road (Edgemont), Burns Street (Hartsdale), Ridge Road (Hartsdale), Hastings.  Copies of the responses will be filed with the Town Clerk and made available to those who would like to review.

Commissioner Victor Carosi of the Department of Public Works provided me with the following update re: Theodore Young Community Center repairs--pool and gym floor.
"I spoke directly with the contractor for the HVAC system, Carey & Walsh.  Drawings for the installation and equipment are 95% complete and will be submitted to our consultant for review before the end of this week.  These drawings include specific installation details for the steel support structure for the new units on the roof of the gym, and specifics related to the pool solar and ventilation system.
The system is confirmed for build with the factory in mid-February with a ship date no later than April 1.
Currently, the contractor is scheduled to begin preparation work and steel work toward the end of March, to coordinate with the equipment arrival by April 1.  This is of course weather dependent.  If March weather is not conducive to construction work, than the timetable will be pushed further into April or May.
As is noted, the Gym Floor is scheduled for bidding February 4, with bids due February 20.  We would expect action on the flooring bids to be ready for a Town Board decision at the first meeting in March.  While I am not sure of the lead-time for the flooring product, I would expect May as a reasonable time frame for installation of the flooring - after completion of the HVAC system.
Pool
The pool is currently being refilled.  Leaks in the balancing tank are repaired.  Problems have been discovered with the main pool pump – the exact nature and extent I do not know just yet.  I am waiting to hear from the contractor when we can re-open the pool."
