FORMER YANKEES OUTFIELDER PAUL O'NEILL AMONG GUESTS AT OPENING DAY LITTLE LEAGUE GAME
Release Date: April 13, 2013

Many Little League's in Greenburgh kicked off their Little League ceremonnies this weekend. I enjoyed participating in the opening day ceremonies for the 2013 season in Ardsley and in Elmsford.

Although all the opening day ceremonies in all of Greenburgh and the villages are meaningful and inspiring, the Elmsford Little League event was very special. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Club House. Elmsford Little League players, their families and friends also had the opportunity to meet former NY Yankees' outfielder Paul O'Neill, the recipient of five All Star game awards and five World Series championship rings. Every year, for the past few years, the Elmsford Little League has had some celebrity special guests participating in their parade and opening day ceremonies. Last years parade and ceremony featured Hall of Fame Dodgers' Manager Tommy Lasorda. The year before NY Mets and Yankees star Darryl Strawberry attended the ceremonies and marched in the parade. O'Neill talked about his Little League experiences. Who knows? Some of the Little League players in Greenburgh today may one day also win a World Series championship game!

A special thank you to the many parents who work hard to make the Little League programs in Greenburgh a big success. Parents help work at the field, coach the athletes, make sure that their children are on time for all the games and practices. Many local businesses and individuals also support the Leagues--enabling children to enjoy the games and continue a tradition that teaches teamwork and character. Others run snack bars and give their time to the sport. Our community is lucky to have so many fantastic parents helping out!
