GREAT NEWS...NY STATE LEGISLATURE APPROVES LEGISLATION TO MAKE JACKSON AV SAFER!
Release Date: June 25, 2013

I am very pleased to report that the New York State Senate and New York State Assembly approved legislation in Albany that will enable the town to straighten out an S curve along Jackson Ave (near Jackson and N Sprain Road). Once the road is straightened out it will be much safer for residents and the many motorists who use Jackson Ave to get to Costco, Stew Leonards, Home Depot and Ridge Hill. The town, villages of Ardsley & Hastings received $5 million after the Ridge Hill lawsuit settlement to make safety improvements on roads impacted by the Ridge Hill development. There were 65 accidents on Jackson Ave in 2012. This safety improvement is one of the most important safety initiatives that are being pursued.

New York State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins introduced the legislation in the Senate. Assemblyman Tom Abinanti introduced the legislation in the State Assembly. The legislation has the support of the County Executive, Greenburgh Legislators (Mary Jane Shimsky, Alfreda Williams, Michael Smith) and Ardsley & Hastings officials. This is a great example of everyone working together for the good of the community and for public safety.
The reason why the state had to approve the legislation is because we will be alienating a small strip of parkland along the Jackson Avenue border of Sprain Ridge Park -- a strip needed to straighten out the S-curve along Jackson Ave, a straightening needed to reconfigure the Y-intersection at the corner of Jackson and North Sprain Road. The legislation needs to be signed into law by the Governor.
