Vic Weinstein, 75, a resident of Tarrytown and husband of Penny Weinstein, died on Thursday, December 5 from an apparent heart attack.
Weinstein was a member of the Town of Greenburgh's planning board—the town includes Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Fairview, Greenville (Edgemont), Hartsdale, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, and Tarrytown.
Paul Feiner, Town Supervisor for Greenburgh said, "Vic was smart, always helpful to the town, a great personal friend, an advisor. He served on citizen boards and commissions. He helped the town make great planning decisions, assisted businesses through his volunteer initiatives. Most important of all—he was one of the nicest persons one could know. I am heartbroken over his passing and will always cherish the friendship I had with him. Vic made the world a better place."
Weinstein was a member of the congregation of Temple Beth Abraham, a reform and conservative synagogue in Tarrytown, and the chairman of its House Committee (responsible for physical maintenance of the synagogue and landscaping, safety and security).
He provided ongoing community service
Weinstein was the secretary of the Wyldwood Home Owners Association board. Board President Richie Block said, "Vic was an original member of the Wyldwood condominium board and was always looking out for the best interests of the community. His smiling face will be sorely missed."
Barry Milowitz, the condo board's first president, said, "Vic was a big help in getting the community started. He was the only member of the board with prior condo board management experience." Weinstein had served on a condo board at Carrollwood in Tarrytown before moving to Wyldwood.
The community's first board had five members: three residents (Weinstein, Milowitz and Marv Alpert) and two employees of the developer. Alpert said, "Vic was a hard worker, he never missed a meeting and his experience proved invaluable."
Board Vice President Jerry Luks added, "He gave dedicated service to the Wyldwood community as secretary of the board for more than 10 years."
Treasurer Bill Fraser mentioned, "I can certainly say that he was a very dedicated man in every aspect of his life. First was his devotion to his wife Penny. Followed by his enthusiasm towards all of his roles on various boards including Wyldwood where he definitely looked out for the best interests of our community."
"This is so sad," said Jim Goldberg, former Board Treasurer. "Vic was always friendly, had a winning way and a strong sense of community. He was a really nice guy."
Wyldwood is an 86-unit, 12-year-old condominium complex in Tarrytown, built by GDC.
An over-pouring of love came from friends.
Dina Kalish, a neighbor, said, "He was a wonderful person, very involved in the Westchester County community and an animal lover. He took such good care of his pets and I will miss seeing him every morning walking his dog."
Philip Gottfried, another neighbor, said, "He was a gentle soul who always had a broad smile for anyone he met. He devoted many hours of his time to service to our community for which we are grateful."
Weinstein graduated from Boston University and was Real Estate Program Manager at International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) before retiring about ten years ago.
He frequently worked out in the Wyldwood exercise room.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, December 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Abraham, 25 Leroy Avenue, Tarrytown.
