There are two kinds of angels—volunteers who will shovel driveways at no cost (we will assign you to a person who is disabled, elderly or on a fixed income) OR snow angels who expect some kind of payment for your services. UNSUNG HERO—CREOLA SOLOMON
Deaconess Creola Solomon is a member of New Hope Institutional Baptist Church in Tarrytown. She is active in the Tarrytown senior canteen program and organizes events on a weekly basis. She prepares lunches, activities and games for them during their meetings. She has run the food pantry at New Hope Church since 1979 and has been responsible for serving hundreds of families in our community and throughout Westchester. She does all the shopping visits and receives donations from other local churches. Recently, she started a bi-monthly senior luncheon at the church. She is loved and respected by people who know her. She has 3 sons, 3 daughters, 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She’s been married for 54 years. Reverend Dr. John H. Gilmore, pastor of New Hope Institutional Baptist Church said that it is impossible to describe all that this “humble and loving woman does”. She is an unsung hero and a living saint.
