Judge Janet Malone appointed Acting NY State Supreme Ct Judge...results: Moot Court competition
Release Date: April 24, 2014

Family Court Judge Janet Malone of Greenburgh was  recently appointed Acting NY State Supreme Court Justice to preside over cases in the post matrimonial judgment part. As such, she will be leaving the Family Court. Judge Malone, wife of Greenburgh public access coordinator George Malone, deserves our good wishes ---and our thanks for her service to the community.  She and her husband are great assets to our town!

Greenburgh Judge Delores Brathwaite shared news about the recent Moot Court competition the Greenburgh Town Judges organized for students.  A wonderful event for our young people. An educational undertaking that the students will be able to use for the rest of their lives.
A special thanks to Judge Brathwaite for her hard work organizing the event. And, to Judges Arlene Gordon Oliver and Walter Rivera for their support of the Moot Court.

Dear Paul ~

Thank you so much for being a part of Opening Ceremony on Thursday, April 10, 2014.  It was the start of what was a wonderful day, an exciting experience for the students and many are already looking forward to the 2nd Annual Competition.  We have already been invited back to the Judicial Institute for the next time.

While all the schools that participated could not take home a trophy, the students did a wonderful job in presenting their oral arguments.
The fact that they argued their case before top lawyers as well as City, County and Supreme Court Judges, and did so well, is an indication that we have some outstanding young people in our community.

Here are the final results:

SOLOMON SCHECHTER SCHOOL OF WESTCHESTER took home the trophy for Championship Team
decision in favor of Petitioner)

THE MASTERS SCHOOL was First Runner Up

OUTSTANDING ORAL ADVOCATE was JULIE SCHLUGER from SOLOMON SCHECHTER

BEST WRITTEN BRIEF - Petitioner/Appellant - ARDSLEY HIGH SCHOOL

BEST WRITTEN BRIEF - Respondent/Appellee - HACKLEY SCHOOL

HONORABLE MENTION - WRITTEN BRIEF - SOLOMON SCHECHTER

We must mention that Woodlands High School and Valhalla High School also received very high scores in advocacy, but again everyone did an excellent job, including Ardsley, Alexander Hamilton and Maria Regina High Schools.

Thank you again for all your support and we hope we will be able to continue to count on you as we move forward for the next competition. (We were asked by some schools that we consider moving the competition to the Fall rather than the Spring so that more students will be able to participate. We are taking the request under advisement.)

Judge Delores Scott Brathwaite
