Mariano Rivera, Yankees great kicks off Elmsford Little League opening day
Release Date: April 26, 2014

The Elmsford Little League Opening day parade and ceremony has become one of the most exciting community events.  Today, the Grand Marshall for the parade was Yankees great Mariano Rivera.  Last year five time World Series champion and former Yankees right fielder Paul O'Neill kicked off the season in style. In 2012 the Elmsford Little League grand marshall was legendary Dodger's manager Tommy Lasorda. And, in 2011 grand marshal was Daryl Strawberry.

THE GREATS RECOGNIZE THE POTENTIAL OF OUR YOUTH

The Little League team members could include some young players who --if they practice hard enough - could one day follow the example of Rivera, Strawberry, O'Neill and Lasorda. Who knows? They may be tomorrows great players.

The President of the League, Rich Wurtzburger and his hard working Board of Directors, coaches, umpires and volunteers have done an amazing job. Last year they dedicated a 2,000 square foot clubhouse. With the addition of the new clubhouse Elmsford was granted the 9/10s Tournament All Stars Championship Game. During the off season the League hired a professional baseball field landscaping company to repair and rebuild the infields.

A TERRIFIC BOARD OF DIRECTORS DESERVES OUR APPRECIATION...

The 2014 Elmsford Little League Board of Directors is terrific. They should be thanked. Their board members include:

Rich Wurtzburger (President); Jerry Zarra, Steve Cowles, Jon Last, Tony DeLillo, Jennifer Wurtzbrger, Fred Bragaglia, John Malone, Ray DeSousa, Dave Owen, Brian Field, Mike Orsini, Mitch Chalsen, Dave Hecht and John McKillop.  The team had their ceremonies at Rumbrook Park. Special thanks to Gerry Byrne, Commissioner of Parks and his team for their efforts keeping our parks in great shape.

PAUL FEINER
