Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner will host his first community outreach meeting on Wednesday, January 19th at 7:30 PM at the Greenville School in Edgemont (off of Ardsley Road).
The Library Board has been invited to make a presentation to the community to discuss the proposed 20 million dollar library expansion and to answer questions from the community.
The second half of the meeting will be devoted to community concerns. Feiner anticipates that the new garbage/recycling schedule will be discussed. Some residents of the community favor keeping the new schedule.The town now collects garbage twice a week during holiday weeks and non holiday weeks. Others have complained about the reduction in recycling --especially the fact that there is no recycling during holiday weeks.Newspapers and plastics pile up--creating problems for those who don't have adequate storage in their homes.
At the Tuesday, January 18th Town Board work session Feiner proposed that at least one of the 3 new sanitation workers the Town Board authorized not be hired and that the funds be used for overtime so that during holiday weeks recycling can take place. It makes no sense to hire 3 new employees and to see an erosion in recycling services. Greenburgh should be a leader in promoting recycling. If our new schedule is not working we should make changes.
The Town Board discussed the problems people are having with the new schedule. A majority of the Board decided to wait till after the February holidays to give the Board time to assess the impact of the new recycling schedule.
A reduction in recycling on the part of residents will result in additional costs to the taxpayers-- the county charges the town extra for garbage disposal.
