CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS SUGGEST COMPROMISE
Release Date: February 24, 2005

Your input on the following compromise proposal would be appreciated....
The Council of Greenburgh Civic Associations is proposing a compromise  for the revised garbage/recycling schedule. Currently, during holiday weeks there is no recycling. Garbage is picked up twice a week. We have received hundreds of complaints from constituents indicating that they have experienced difficulty retaining recycling material for two or more weeks.
The civic associations are suggesting  that we consider a compromise proposal that would increase the number of weeks of twice a week garbage collection. The suggestion: Include alternate week schedule for collecting recycling-- one week paper, the other week commingled metal, glass and plastics. Recycling would be picked up every week-holiday and non holiday weeks.  Everyone would get one pickup of garbage during holiday weeks. But... the town would SCHEDULE A SECOND GARBAGE PICKUP during holiday weeks for one half of the town. The 2nd garbage pickup would rotate- one holiday the north end would get the 2nd pickup. The 2nd holiday the south end would get the pickup.
The benefit: There would be only 5 or 6 weeks a year with one garbage  pickup instead of 11 weeks. And, recycling would be scheduled weekly--no holiday interruptions.
