How much has Greenburgh spent so far on snow removal?
Release Date: February 24, 2015

It’s been a difficult winter so far. According to Victor Carosi, Commissioner of Public Works the town has already spent $143,054.23 on overtime in 2015  (not counting the last snow storm) addressing snow related issues.  And, we have  committed nearly all of the budgeted money ($630,000) for salt purchases.  We have adequate salt on hand and a backlog of deliveries still pending.  We do not expect any problem with salt budget.

Don’t worry. If it keeps on snowing at the rate it has been snowing and we exceed our $250,000 overtime budget – we will go into contingency.   We can always authorize a budget transfer. We will never jeopardize your safety and will never cut back on snow removal operations due to budget issues.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our hard working public works, police and parks department  for working long hours during days, nights, weekends helping to keep our roads safe. It’s not fun being called on night after night –in frigid temperatures addressing snow related issues.   Each of our employees who are assigned to snow related duties deserves our thanks.

In an effort to further educate residents, students and contracting professionals on stormwater runoff issues and low-impact management practices, the Town of Greenburgh Bureau of Engineering in conjunction with the Department of Community Development and Conservation present a guided tour by a knowledgeable, Licensed Professional Engineer or Certified Arborist.

The guided tour will include information on:
(1)The low-impact stormwater management design and practices implemented at the Town Hall,
(2)The benefits of each low-impact stormwater management practice to the environment, and
(3)Alternative low-impact stormwater management practices that can be implemented in future projects.
