Release Date: August 05, 2015

When the A & P in Greenburgh closes down one employee won’t have to worry. Anthony Samarneh, one of the managers at the A & P in Greenburgh will take home $1.5 million dollars – having won the NY lottery.  We wish the other employees of the A & P supermarkets in Greenburgh similar luck!  Acme Markets will be taking over the supermarket in Greenburgh later this year.

August 1781 was the year that  General George Washington’s army—camped in Ardsley and Dobbs Ferry—started a march along what is now Ashford Avenue. General Washington’s army  continued to what is now Broadway, crossed the Hudson River....and marched to Virginia where they defeated the British army under Cornwalis.

The Village of Dobbs Ferry and the Dobbs Ferry Historical Society co-sponsor the annual Road to Freedom Walk. This year it’s set for Aug. 9. The march starts at 1 PM at Gould Park. The walk is led by fife and drums and costumed reenactors and they follow the route of the Continental Army as they departed Dobbs Ferry for Yorktown Va on August 19, 1781.  At 2 PM there will be folk songs, story telling, fife and drum at the Mead house at 12 Elm Street in Dobbs Ferry – off of Broadway. Costumed performers and presenters. Dobbs Ferry history reenacted. Display of everyday items used by soldiers. Demonstration of 18th century makeup, hair, fashion and tea practices.

This event is free. Refreshments will be served. A great program to take your children to. Will make history come alive and be more relevant.
