ISSUE FOR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES: LACK OF RELIABLE MAIL SERVICE (WHAT WILL THEY DO)?
Release Date: February 21, 2016

An issue that deserves to be discussed during the Presidential campaign--lack of reliable mail service

MAIL NOT BEING DELIVERED...DELIVERED TO WRONG ADDRESS...FINANCIAL PROBLEMS POSTAL SERVICE IS HAVING...WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO RESTORE CONFIDENCE IN POSTAL SERVICE?

Recently,  I received, at my own house a bill for $2000 addressed to someone else. I opened up the envelope by mistake and than noticed that it was addressed to someone who lived over a mile away.

I have been receiving letters from  constituents I recent months who also frequently receives  neighbors mail.  Some people are stressed because they depend on the reliable mail delivery for medicines. Most people don't have confidence that every letter addressed to them is getting to them --or that the mail they send out is going to be delivered to the right person.

I believe that the United States Congress should hold a public hearing in Washington DC on the reliability of mail delivery. The problem is not a Greenburgh alone problem. It's become a national problem. Invite American citizens to share their stories. Invite postal employees, Postmasters to also testify. Something must be done.

Most people who have contacted me praise their own mail service carrier. They point out that the problems usually occur when the carrier is replaced with someone who is not as familiar with the route. The postal service doesn't have the funds they used to have to guarantee reliable service.

I have received hundreds of e mails and complaints about mail delivery in recent years. The complaints are almost non stop. People CANNOT RELY ON THE POSTAL SERVICE FOR DELIVERY.

What action steps do each of the Presidential candidates plan to take to improve postal service delivery?

In the meantime...please feel free to continue to reach out to me whenever you have a postal service related complaint. I have been forwarding each complaint to our congressional representatives and the Postal Service and have urged our Congressional representatives to give this their priority.  My e mail is pfeiner@greenburghny.com
