BICYCLE SUNDAYS THIS WEEKEND ON BRONX RIVER PARKWAY...AVOID TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE THIS WEEKEND
Release Date: April 29, 2016

BICYCLE SUNDAYS BEGIN FOR 42ND YEAR THIS WEEKEND
42 years ago I got my start in government by serving as a member of former Westchester County Executive Al Del Bello’s Bikeway Committee. I was chair of the Task Force for Bikeways in Westchester and successfully lobbied the county to build the first bikeway in Westchester – on the Bronx Parkway. I was in NYC- noticed that Central Park was closed for bicyclists and suggested that the county do something similar. Our committee recommended that the Bronx River Parkway be closed for cyclists on Sundays.

Beginning on Sunday, for the 42nd consecutive year, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each weekend during the coming weeks, bicyclists, skaters, joggers, walkers and families will take over more than six miles of the Bronx River Parkway between White Plains and Yonkers, where they will be free to enjoy the area’s scenery while not driving 55 mph on the roadway.  I am so pleased that this terrific tradition is continuing and that so many people are going to be able to enjoy this great recreation and family event!

AVOID TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE IF YOU CAN THIS WEEKEND
