REVISED APPLICATION FOR PHASE IN OF TAX HIKES DUE TO REASSESSMENT POSTED- AN EASIER FORM TO COMPLETE
Release Date: July 25, 2016

REVISED APPLICATION FOR PHASE IN OF TAX HIKES DUE TO REASSESSMENT POSTED--EASIER FORM TO COMPLETE

On Friday I posted an application for those who qualify for the reassessment phase in. Received some e mails, calls from taxpayers who felt that the application was  very complicated and onerous. There were some minor errors in the application that was posted on Friday.  Thanks to the input of our residents we modified the form and made it much easier. Special thanks to Greenburgh Councilman Francis Sheehan and Town Assessor Edye McCarthy who went to Town Hall on Sunday afternoon and spent hours revising the form. That's dedication!   The new application should not take as long to complete and removes some steps.

Greenburgh and Ossining are the first communities in New York State that have been granted permission by the Governor and NYS Legislature to phase in tax increases for those who  are most significantly impacted by reassessment. Our phase laws  applies only to those whose assessments will increase by more than 25%. The deadline to complete the application is September 15th and there are income eligibility requirements (one must qualify for STAR-earn less than $500,000 a year). To comply with the NYS requirement that only those without building violations benefit from the phase in - residents who apply must agree to allow an interior inspection.

For further info visit the Assessor's page on the Greenburgh website: www.greenburghny.com or call the Assessor's office at 989 1520.  Postcards will be sent to residents who the assessor believes may qualify for the phase in.  The assessment numbers are not finalized until after the Assessment Board rules on the grievances filed (about 3200) in September.
