The Greenburgh Town Board approved the bid authorizing the construction of a sidewalk on Fort Hill Road from Ardsley Road heading towards Jackson Ave at a special meeting today. And we unanimously voted to oppose a proposal that would allow commercial barges to drop anchor along a 70 mile stretch of the Hudson River. We are concerned about potential environmental impacts and our ability to revitalize the waterfronts. RESPONSE FROM NYS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION—NEED FOR TURNAROUND IN THE CENTER MEDIAN OF SPRAIN PARKWAY IN JULY CARS WERE STUCK FOR FIVE HOURS ON PARKWAY AS A RESULT OF CHEMICAL SPILL This past July the Sprain Parkway in Greenburgh was closed for 5 hours as a result of a chemical spill. Motorists were very frustrated and upset. I wrote to the State Department of Transportation suggesting a turnaround in the center median. A turn around would provide motorists and first responders with the ability to avoid these long delays in the future. I received the following response from the Regional Director of the NYS DOT to the request and am pleased that the state will investigate the request. Honorable Paul Feiner Supervisor Dear Mr. Feiner: The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has an active Traffic Incident Management (TIM) team in the Hudson Valley region. This team, which includes NYSDOT, New York State Police and other state and local emergency response agencies, was charged with both the swift and safe clearance of the incident and the management of the traffic it generated. We view each incident as an opportunity to review best practices and have done so in this instance. With regard to your request for a turnaround area, we will investigate the possibility of locating one in the center median. It is important to note that a turnaround would still require active traffic management during an incident in order to assure that vehicles using the area do not cause crashes in the opposite direction, potentially multiplying the effects of the original incident.
