GREENBURGH TO PUSH FOR HIGH SPEED BROADBAND GIGABIT SERVICE--14 TIMES FASTER
Release Date: October 14, 2016

Gigabit service is 14 times faster than typical broadband service. Last week the Westchester County Association announced that they are working with four Westchester cities to promote gigabit service in those cities. I quickly contacted the County Association and other business leaders in the county indicating that Greenburgh and other towns and villages within Westchester should also benefit from this effort. The County Association has not yet secured funding for implementation of the $750 million estimated implementation plan. And, details of the implementation have still not been worked out. So it's very early in the 3-5 year planning process. I hope to work with county business leaders to expedite the implementation of this opportunity in Greenburgh

Greenburgh is the home of Regeneron which is planning a one million square foot expansion (with thousands of new employees who will be working in Greenburgh--and possibly purchasing homes here). We are the home of Acorda, another major bio tech company. Route 119, Saw Mill River Road, Central Ave, E Hartsdale Ave and our downtown villages have offices, businesses that would also benefit from faster broadband service. We are larger than other cities in Westchester.  And, just approved a Comprehensive Plan (first in town history) that addresses land use planning.

Increasing broadband service to Greenburgh businesses and homes will be given our priority attention. It's important that our town be as attractive to potential and existing businesses as all the cities in Westchester.
