Release Date: November 20, 2016

MAKE A HOMEBOUND SENIOR OR DISABLED NEIGHBOR SMILE…MUSICIANS WANTED FOR CONCERTS AT THEIR HOMES

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO ORGANIZE EFFORT

Our community has a number of homebound elderly residents living here. And, it would be nice to make their lives a little better. I’m trying to organize a new initiative and would welcome the help of volunteers. We are trying to enlist musically talented volunteers to provide concerts to the homebound or otherwise isolated individuals. This initiative is based on a successful program in NYC called Concerts in Motion. The musicians will go to the homes of the elderly and give concerts at their home. I have reached out to religious groups, schools and musicians seeking volunteers.

Among goals; to encourage interaction between young people and seniors and to relieve social isolation through music.  Seniors who are homebound have little to look forward to  This initiative will put a smile on the face of the elderly. It's also an opportunity for young musicians to have a better appreciation of the difficulties many elderly people have and to help them enjoy their lives. The volunteers need not be limited to youth.

In NYC seniors have requested musicians to perform classical, jazz, rock, Calypso, Chinese folk, Yiddish, Latin, klezmer, Northern Indian raag, and more.  Anyone interested in volunteering for this effort – please advise.

If you have the time and would be interested in helping to organize the effort please let me know.  If you are musically inclined and want to help - please advise. It would be appreciated. My e mail is pfeiner@greenburghny.com.

Make someone smile!
