A number of residents have asked how they can save $ on heating oil. NYPIRG’s Fuel Buyers Group uses group buying power to bring big savings on energy costs. They have more than 11,000 members in their non profit organization and have over 20 years experience. They negotiate with full service companies for heating oil prices averaging 10-35 cents per gallon below retail.  The price is tied directly to the wholesale price of heating oil. I have been referring constituents to this non profit organization (which was formed by Ralph Nader) since I took office as a CountyLegislatorin the 1980s. Employees can use pre-tax dollars to pay for commuting expenses if their employer joins the county’s commute-n-save program. An employee may take up to $105 per month in actual eligible transportation costs and up to $200 a month for qualified parking to obtain pre tax savings. Call 813-7741.
