I am pleased that Westchester County Legislator Tom Abinanti has expressed interest in assisting the GreenburghNatureCenterpreserve the property that borders on the NatureCenter. Significant development of the property could have a very negative impact on the wildlife habitats in the area. The following is a release that Legislator Abinanti sent out. The NatureCenteris a tremendous asset to our town. We must make sure that the land is protected. Legislator Abinanti has helped the town preserve 3 other important parcels of open space: Hartsbrook in Hartsdale; Glenville Woods and Taxter Ridge. PAUL FEINER CountyLegislatorTom Abinanti (D-I-WF, Greenburgh) is calling for the County to assist the GreenburghNatureCenterand Edgemont residents in acquiring additional land for the NatureCenter. "The County's New Year's resolutions should include adding to the Greenburgh Nature Center," said Abinanti. "Open space is scarce in Greenburgh's Edgemont section and in the adjacent parts of Yonkers, Scarsdale and Eastchester -- this area desperately needs more." In a letter to County Executive Andy Spano, Abinanti has proposed that the county join with Greenburgh to purchase 2.3 acres on Dromore Road. Members of the Nature Center's Board, Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner and Edgemont residents have expressed interest in the undeveloped parcel which now links the Nature Center and Edgemont H.S.'s northern playing fields. Abinanti described saving this green space as "essential to protecting the wildlife habitats in the area" and as a significant addition to the Nature Center's ability to provide nature education opportunities for the County's students."
