Westchester declared federal disaster area
Release Date: April 25, 2007

Westchester County received a federal Individual Assistance disaster declaration today from President George W. Bush. Victims of last week’s storm and flooding from the period of April 14-18, 2007, could be eligible for grants for temporary housing and home repairs and low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses. Other programs to help residents and business owners also will be available.

The Town of Greenburgh is in the process of developing a policy that would waive certain permit fees related to rebuilding and reconstruction due to the storm.

FEMA has advised that business owners and residents that sustained losses can begin applying for assistance tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25, by registering online at www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY – for the speech and hearing impaired). The numbers will be operational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Right now, this is only an Individual Assistance declaration. If the program later extends to Public Assistance we will let you know.
