Flood control grants...sidewalk sales
Release Date: May 30, 2007

United States Congresswoman Nita Lowey has secured funding for flood control efforts. I am requesting that the Town Board authorize the Commissioner of Public Works to apply for funding to so we can start to address some of the flooding problems around town. Usually, there is a 55%-45% local contribution requirement-- the federal government picks up 55% of the costs, local governments are asked to contribute 45%.
East Hartsdale Ave merchants have requested permission to hold sidewalk sales weekly during the 2007 season. Our current law does not authorize weekly sidewalk sales. Because of the flooding problems - I am requesting the Town Board to adopt a resolution authorizing weekly sidewalk sales in 2007. This could help the merchants who were out of business for many weeks due to the flooding. If this initiative is successful we might want to make changes to our current law.
The Town Board discussed the request yesterday at work session. It's my hope that the flood relief request will be granted soon so the merchants can benefit from the sidewalk sales.
