Requesting Town Board update FOIL law in Town Code to accept email requests
Release Date: June 21, 2007

As the Town Clerk and Records Access Officer I am recommending to the Town Board that they update the Town Code so we can legally accept Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests by email and fax. Currently our law only provides for written requests.

Of course FOIL requests can also still be submitted to the Town Clerk’s office in writing, but this will allow access to more people in more ways.

My goal in making this recommendation is to make it easier for people to have accessibility to public records. To help achieve this goal I have asked Councilman Steve Bass to introduce a new law that will update our Town Code.

Councilman Bass will be introducing the law at the next meeting of the Town Board, Wednesday, June 27 at 7:15 p.m. at Town Hall.

Open government and easy access to records is extremely important and this new law is part of our continued effort to update the Town Code to keep it modern.
