Release Date: April 12, 2005

The members of the Greenburgh Town Board, meeting in work session, decided to file a notice of appeal/motion to reargue in response to the Supreme Court decision involving the Taxter Ridge litigation. The court had ruled that the villages must pay for the acquisition of Taxter Ridge. Members of the Board want further clarification from the court.

Police Chief John Kapica appeared before the Town Board to discuss the future of community policing on Manhattan Ave. All the members of the Board feel that community policing is an essential service the police department sponsors.. The police department currently is understaffed –there are 3 open positions (because of vacancies). And, 5 officers are out on disability (one is recovering from brain surgery, another will be having surgery soon, others working light duty). New hires are required to enter a minimum of 3 months of in service training and will not be expected to be available for solo patrol until the first week of September. The Town Board will authorize $50,000 in overtime to continue the community policing program on Manhattan Aveat tomorrowsTownBoard meeting. Next year the Board will be asked to increase the number of police officers serving the town. Paul Feiner
