The Department of Community Development and Conservation Community Development (Planning and Zoning) is responsible for guiding growth and encouraging economic development in a sustainable manner within Unincorporated Greenburgh.

The Department works closely with the Building Department, Department of Public Works - Bureau of Engineering, Police and Fire Departments.  The Department also works closely with the Town Board, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Historic and Landmarks Preservation Board, Conservation Advisory Council, local and regional businesses, and Town residents in shaping development policies.

The department oversees the following:

 

Planning Division provides professional planning services to the Town Board and Planning Board. This includes assistance and support in reviewing development applications and environmental permitting for conformance with local regulations and policies, performing land use studies and reviewing ordinances and assist applicant in preparing applications and the helping the public understand the development process. This division is responsible for current and long term planning in Unincorporated Greenburgh.

 

Zoning Division provides professional services for the Zoning Board of Appeals and report and gives assistance to Town Zoning Board, applicants and the general public.

 

Conservation Division provides professional services relating to environmental issues within development applications to the Town Board, Planning Board and Conservation Advisory Council. This division is also responsible for wetland reviews and tree removal permits.

 

Community Development Division seeks grants and carries out grants on behalf of the Town and arranges for citizen participation for federal, state and local community development applications.

Other functions of the department as a whole include:

  • Comprehensive Plan development
  • Energy Conservation
  • Sustainability initiatives
  • Site Plan and Development approval inspections
  • Farmers Market
