Town to start curbside pickup of food scraps in 2020- STORMWATER EDUCATION AND OUTREACH UPDATE
Release Date: March 07, 2019

Last year the Greenburgh Town Board authorized the establishment of a food scrap recycling drop off location at AF Veteran Park. The food scrap recycling initiative is being coordinated by the Greenburgh Nature Center.

The program has been a great success. Many residents of the town drop off their food scraps at AF Veteran park, cutting back on the amount of garbage that has to be picked up.

Greenburgh plans to expand the program next year by offering residents of unincorporated Greenburgh and the villages curb side pickup of food scraps. At our last Town Board meeting the Town Board unanimously approved a resolution to apply for a grant  from NYS to purchase two collection vehicles dedicated to hold and transport food scraps and provide outreach and education for the town including the villages.  It is anticipated that the curbside pickup will be start sometime in 2020.
In the meantime, we encourage residents to continue to drop off their food scraps at AF Veteran park.

Last year the village of Scarsdale became the first community in Westchester to offer residents curbside pickup of food scraps. Greenburgh will soon become one of the first communities in the county to join Scarsdale in offering this innovative program.

First-Ever Comprehensive Nationwide PFAS Action Plan. EPA released the Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Action Plan, which responds to extensive public interest and input the agency has received over the past year and represents the first time EPA has built a multi-media, multi-program, national communication and research plan to address an emerging environmental challenge like PFAS. "The PFAS Action Plan is the most comprehensive cross-agency plan to address an emerging chemical of concern ever undertaken by EPA," said EPA's Andrew Wheeler. "For the first time in Agency history, we utilized all of our program offices to construct an all-encompassing plan to help states and local communities address PFAS and protect our nation's drinking water."
